Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss

Dr. Seuss.jpg

When, I was a kid, my eyes were glued to the TV and my ears were perked, listening to Boris Karloff narrate How the Grinch Stole Christmas! I loved the music of this story. And as a mother of a five and four year old, I love hearing the music as I recite The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, and of course, How the Grinch Stole Christmas! But one of my favorite Dr. Seuss books is Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You? I love it because I can really become animated when I read it out load to my daughters. They are so attentive when I act out the sounds like Dibble, Dibble, Dopp (for rain), Splat (for lightening), and channelling a cow with Moo. Dr. Seuss was a genious and one of the first Spoken Word-smiths. A couple of years ago, I wrote a poem called Friendship (read below). I guess I was channelling Mr. Dr. Seuss when I wrote it. But, by no means, I topped him. Happy Birthday,Top Cat!

My friends are there to support me.

Not taunt me

haunt me.

They’re not jealous

But relish in my company

and I do the same with them too.

My friendship is not based on

“What can you do for me?”

If you think so

You really don’t have a clue.

Now you’re making me sound like a Who

from Dr. Seuss

going boo hoo hoo.

My friends are my sista,

my brotha

my lova

my cova

on a chilly night.

They’re my shoulder,

my boulder,

some are older;

they were sent from the beholder.

My friends never neglect,

always respect,

and come correct.

(Friendship is from Wrapped Up In Life With Omniscient Eyes)
