Haiku Workshop (Seniors)

 

This workshop is geared to an introduction to writing one of the simplest yet complex poetry forms: Haiku.  Seniors will learn how to create/write a standard Haiku in 5/7/5.  The creation of the Haiku can either be individual or communal.

Little Poems Workshop (Seniors)

 

 

This workshop is geared to writing Little Poems.  The Little Poems can be Haiku, Senryu, Tanka, or  Couplets (rhymed and unrhymed).   Seniors will learn how to create these Little Poems in either individual or communal settings.

Sights and Sounds Poetry Workshop (Seniors)

 

 

This workshop is geared to writing Ekphrastic Poetry using pictures and/or music.(Ekphrastic Poetry is a poem written from inspiration from another art form) .  Seniors will create an Ekphrasic poem with the Tanka poetry form.  (Tanka poetry means a short story or song).   Familial pictures and music will be used, so if there are visual and hearing disabilities, one can use their “mind’s eyes.” Seniors will learn how to create an Ekphrasic poem in either individual or communal settings.

Writing Poetry with Your Senses Workshop (Seniors)

 

 

This workshop is geared to writing poetry using your five senses (smell, touch, hearing, sight, and taste).  The Senryu poetry form will be used. (Senryu is a poetry form similar to the Haiku but uses aspects of human nature (emotions). Senryu will use the standard 5/7/5 or the group can come up with a different format. Seniors will learn how to create a poem using as many senses as they would like in either individual or communal settings.

Begin Your Journal (Seniors)

 

Begin getting your thoughts and memories on paper. This workshop is geared for individuals who would like to write and would like to get started on their memoir.  Seniors can start their journaling adventure alone or with a partner.
